What We Do - An Overview


Toowoomba and Golden West Tourism (TGWT) is responsible for the promotion of the Darling Downs (as part of South East Queensland Country) and the Western Downs to key identified target markets. This is achieved through various means.

Membership to TGWT provides businesses with the opportunity to advertise in the South East Queensland Country Touring Guide or the Western Downs Touring Guide and seasonal brochures (relevant to your area). There are also a range of topical promotional advertising opportunities each year. Eg The Southern Qld Trade Manual, The Great Bunya Drive, The Toowoomba and Darling Downs Green Thumbs Guide, Freshwater Fishing in Queensland’s Western Downs Guide and seasonal campaigns.



South East Queensland Country Touring Guide

TGWT is directly responsible for the Toowoomba and the Darling Downs section of the South East Queensland Country Touring Guide.

  • 150 000 copies distributed
  • Distributed through RACQ, Visitor Information Centres, Tourism Queensland marketing campaigns and travel shows.

Seasonal Campaigns

TGWT currently partakes in seasonal campaigns for Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. Members receive exclusive advertising opportunities in these campaigns.

TGWT also facilitates, in conjunction with Tourism
Queensland , co-operative campaigns.


Seasonal Specials Brochure

Toowoomba and Darling Downs seasonal brochures are produced throughout the year. These brochures are distributed to South East Queensland Country Club members, at travel shows, Visitor Information Centres and to other identified target markets.

TGWT is directly responsible for the production and promotion of this guide.
  • 100 000 copies produced
  • Distributed through Visitor Information Centres throughout Queensland and Northern New South Wales, RACQ offices, travel shows and Western Downs marketing campaigns.

Regional Marketing Campaigns

TGWT participates in annual marketing campaigns in partnership with Tourism Queensland and regional stakeholders. These campaigns include a range of activities, eg television advertising, billboards and print medium.

These campaigns are an excellent, cost effective way to add value to your own marketing efforts. Whether or not you actually participate in these campaigns, members benefit directly from TGWT’s collective marketing activities, which promote the whole of the Toowoomba and Golden West region.

Online Marketing

As a member of TGWT, businesses are entitled to one free listing on TGWT websites,

which includes:

  • Four (4) images
  • Contact details and website link
  • 150 word business description

Australian Tourism Data Warehouse


Australian Tourism Data Warehouse is a national tourism database that feeds information on tourism products and destination information into a broadening network of over 40 websites including Tourism Queensland ’s (TQ) consumer site www.queenslandholidays.com.au and TGWT’s websites.

Under the Queensland Tourism Strategy (QTS) and as a reflection of the importance of digital marketing in the industry, operators will be eligible for the following subsidies:

  • 2007/ 2008 100%
  • 2008/ 2009 50%
  • 2009/ 2010 30%

Current subscription prices are $300 per year or $200 per year for RTO members. (As at June 2007)

Representation at Travel Shows

Throughout the year the staff of TGWT attend numerous travel shows to promote Toowoomba and Darling Downs and Queensland ’s Western Downs to identified target markets. As a member you will be invited to join TGWT staff to promote the region at these shows.


Last year TGWT had a presence at Caravan, Camping and Touring Shows in Brisbane , Gold Coast, Toowoomba and Lismore and attended Melbourne and Sydney shows. Both regional guides were distributed at all of these shows plus the Adelaide Caravan, Camping and Touring Show.


Media Publicity

TGWT offers publicity opportunities in national, state and local media where possible. Some of our local media activities include weekly columns sponsored by The Chronicle (What, Where, When), The Dalby Herald and radio spots on ABC Southern Queensland.

Often in conjunction with Tourism Queensland , TGWT organises Media Familiarisation tours to generate media coverage at a local, state and national level such as The Courier Mail, Sunday Mail, Creek to Coast and the Great Outdoors. Please note that publicity/ editorial cannot be guaranteed.

As a member, businesses should ensure that TGWT is kept up-to-date with any new developments and special events relating to their business. All members conducting specific promotional events within the region are able to provide media releases to TGWT. These releases will then be distributed to specific TGWT media contacts.



Industry Communication, Networking and Information

Tourism Advisory Group Meetings (TAG)


TGWT holds meetings for Toowoomba and Darling Downs and Western Downs quarterly to exchange information and help develop our marketing plans.

Access to Tourism Research, Marketing and Statistics

To enable members to plan, expand or just to keep up to date with trends and statistics, a resource library is maintained by Tourism Queensland.

TGW works closely with Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) which is also aligned with the National Tourism Association to ensure regional tourism issues are presented at a state and national level. TGWT members become associate members of QTIC.
